Is There A Cost-effective Way To Humanely Eliminate Shrews From Your Yard?
Tuesday, December 15th, 2009I’ve had the same shrew in my garage and siding for the past couple of years. Ideally, I would like to capture and relocate her. Here is what I’ve tried so far:
- Foam gap sealer.
- Copper wool: I used it to plug some holes because they can chew through almost anything else. However, copper wool is not very practical with the access points having since been elongated.
- Garbage: She had gotten into a garbage bag and even after being placed in a garbage can until she could be relocated, she was able to escape.
- Glue Traps: I have been fed up enough on a couple of occasions to use glue traps. She made a powder of the dang foam gap sealer and made the glue trap shrew-safe.
- Automation: I put down a “rat on a trap” toy which jumps and shrieks when triggered by sound or movement. She’s not falling for it.
- Humane traps: She’s too small.
- Sonic deterrent: Expensive / not rated for shrews.
- Yelled “BOO!”: She laughed at me.
Any suggestions before I go spring-loaded?
