Was going to send some food in the mail and was wondering if the smell will be kept inside the bag

I was wondering how well those zip lock bags, that have the small are sealer hole which you use a hand tool to punp the air out with, actually work or not. And if so, how long can they keep things like baked good (ie. Cookies, bread, brownies, ect.) good for??
