Can A Vacuum Sealer Be Used To Seal ‘regular’ Plastic Bags?

I am wondering if a vacuum sealer like the Food Saver or the Rival Seal-a-Meal can be used to seal regular plastic bags. I don’t necessarily need the air to be vacuumed out but I want to be able to reseal stuff like pepperoni or hotdogs or stuff from the freezer like chicken fingers etc (in their original packaging).
Has anyone tried this? I would not imagine it would not damage the sealer (as long as the plastic is thick enough).

You can seal most plastic bags with the sealer, you just won’t be able to vacuum them to well. Go to ebay and buy premade bags in bulk. I seal up all kind of stuff in these bags.
