it sounds like your little shrew is a regular houdini. maybe you need to call a pest control guy. or just give up and call it a pet instead of a pest.

Get some metal mesh like screenings to attach tor your humane trap (use twisty ties). That’s how we caught a chipmunk in our basement. Poor thing wandered in somehow, guess the kids left the garage door open. It was quite a scene, my 3 kids, husband, and dogs racing in circles all over the basement, with me standing on the pool table screaming! We finally got her with a mix of peanut butter and sunflower seeds. She was sooooo cute, I wanted to keep her! Shrews aren’t as cute tho’, lol! Good luck!

Edit2: Dang gonealot, be careful with those raccoons! My DH used to hunt them and has told me many stories of how nasty they can be. Contrary to when we were camping and a couple of raccoons approached our camp, upright and holding paws. It was the d.amndest thing I ever saw!

Havaheart makes several live traps that will catch everything from mice to black bears, depending on the size trap you buy. You can Google live traps, there are a couple of other company’s that make them for small critters.
If you get raccoons, relocate them several miles away, mine were back under my house that evening. I gave up and now just feed them so they don’t come in the house.
By the way, shrews have a VERY nasty bite, it’s supposed to be poisonous, so be careful.
